For those who've wandered here...

Why do any of this? I write about what I'd love to read, the things that inspire, or shake me from a dead sleep. About worlds both far away and right outside your back door. I write because I'm compelled to do so. Both by the characters trapped within my head and the stories that nag to exist. Not to mention having an overactive imagination. One that plays out fictitious arguments while mowing the front lawn. One that still longs to be the private investigator with a heavy revolver, the traveler who's gone walkabout among dark secrets, or the trickster hoping to one day stop chasing his tail.

I only write what comes genuinely screaming through my mind.

I could never have been a mathematician, work forever in a cubicle or corner office, or type reports. I just don't possess the temperament.

The allure of a pen and pad, the daydreams, and that aforementioned revolver, would be too much. The other places, those constructed in the folds of my brain, the characters yelling for voices of their own, the chances not taken, would cause me to sink, to fade. Simply put, I write because I need to.

Along with that need, there's a desk waiting, an empty notebook and a pen. It's simple. Write to shut up the other folks you have living in your brain, and when they aren't particularly forthcoming, proceed to bang our head against your desk to see which one of them comes tumbling out.
